The Hole, Part 2
You may be saying that you are a Christian and that God has already filled the God-shaped hole in your life. Wonderful! But what about the holes that keep popping up because of the sinful habits we have? What about the hole of resentment, or anger, or lust, or jealousy, or pride, or idolatry? These sins will pull us away from our fellowship with God and cause pain and dysfunction in our lives.
In my 54 years as a born-again child of God, I have experienced a lot of holes. They tore me away from a vibrant relationship with God, my wife, my children, my co-workers. They created in me a false sense of who I am and what my life is about. My walk with my loving Father grew faint and unimportant to me. Life began to center around myself and my needs.
Oh, I wish I could tell you it only happened once, but it has happened many times. Each time, I tried to mend the holes by myself, trying to fill in the gap with stuff of my own making. It never worked and left me just as hungry for satisfaction, meaning, peace, and joy as ever.
Then, I heard the voice of the Master calling me to Him. “Come unto me, all you who labor. I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you for my yoke is easy and my burden light.”(Matt. 11:28) As I came to Him, I confessed my wandering and my sin. He took me in and embraced me. He filled the holes in my life with Himself. The Psalmist said, “He picked me up out of the miry clay and set my feet upon the Rock.”( Psalm 40:2)
Are you wandering away from God? Are you frustrated with your life and keep doing more of what you are doing to make a difference. God is the Great Difference Maker! Turn back to Him now.
