Well, at the time of this writing, it is Sunday night, two days before Christmas. We had our first ‘contemporary’ worship service. I thought it went very well with about 38 in attendance. The spirit was good, the music was different for me, but it was the ‘same old preaching.’ God was there and that is the most important part.
Change of any kind will not come without some friction. We have to wrestle with the change. We have to come to grips with whether or not we like the change; why do we need to change; will it really help or hurt the church; and a host of other issues. but the struggle is good for all of us. We need to struggle together, sharing our thoughts for and against the change. We need to struggle with an open mind. Maybe, just maybe, no, probably not, certainly God can’t be honored with this change…..can He? We have to deal with our comfort level with the change, and that is where it gets tough. We don’t like to feel uncomfortable, and too often, we throw God under the bus claiming that our discomfort is a sign of God’s disapproval. Really?
We will be facing a lot of change in the near future. That does not mean we are changing the character of Timber Ridge. We will still be the same giving, loving people we are today. Well, we might change a little. I would like to see us be more mission minded, sharing God’s love outside our community. Yeah, I think that change would be very good.
